Odinson tops May (Late) Sale at $160,000

Media Release - Wednesday May 28

The Listed Inglis Nursery winner Odinson topped today’s May (Late) Online Sale, selling to Pure Bloodstock for $160,000.

Offered by his trainer Ciaron Maher, Odinson is a lightly raced 3YO that is already Group placed on top of his Nursery victory.

It’s expected Odinson will complete the next phase of his racing career in Hong Kong.

“He was a high-quality horse for the stable but the time came where the owners decided they were happy to move him on and he deserved to realise such a strong price today,’’ Maher said.

“Watching the bidding unfold online was amazing. He was sort of sitting around that $80,000 mark until five minutes to go and then the bids just kept coming thick and fast for him, I never thought he’d get to $160,000 so it’s a great outcome.’’

Today’s second-top lot was the Anthony and Sam Freedman-offered 5YO St Vincents Garden, which sold to Te Akau’s David Ellis for $100,000.

St Vincents Garden is a former European performer that won in Ireland and has placed in Australia since arriving here for high profile owners Lloyd Williams and James Packer last year.

St Vincents Garden will join the Cranbourne stables of Te Akau’s head co-trainer Mark Walker.

“He’s only lightly tried, we still think there’s plenty of upside with him so we’ll get him back to Melbourne, get him into our system and see how he goes,’’ Walker said.

“He’s worth the gamble for sure. Hopefully he can continue to acclimatise to the Australian conditions and he can win some nice winter staying races for us over the next couple of months.

“I really like Inglis Digital, we’ve used it a lot, especially when I was in Singapore, it was a great source for the stables and now that I’m in Australia we’ve found it really useful for stayers, especially where you can buy them and get a good return on your money.

“It’s a really easy platform to use, it just works really well no matter where you are in the world.’’

The May (Late) Sale grossed $2,628,400.
