Fastnet Rock's Anaheed Claims Blue Sapphire

Royally-bred Fastnet Rock filly Anaheed has been facing the silk department in Sydney of late so she appreciated the drop back in class for a dominant win in Wednesday’s Group III Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield.

It was the third Group success for Anaheed after the Group II ATC Percy Sykes Stakes and Group II ATC Sweet Embrace Stakes last season at two.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly was scratched from last Saturday's Group III Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m) to run here.

 "It was a good call by Peter and Paul to run her here with the lighter weight, Melbourne stable foreman Andrew Angelone said.

“She's a very good filly and we've always known that. It was good to see her perform today."

Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Anaheed is a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum,

She advances her record to 4 wins and 1 second from 10 starts with earnings of $1,277,650

She is a half-sister to stakes-placed Farooq and is the third winner for Group I winning Testa Rossa mare Rostova.

Tim Stakemire purchased Rostova for the Sheikh for $850,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2015 when she was in foal to Frankel, which produced the winning colt Farooq.

Rostova has a 2yo colt by Medaglia D'Oro (USA) named Epic Deal that was sold by Segenhoe Stud as agent at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for just $25,000.

After missing to Snitzel in 2017, Rostova is now in foal again to Anaheed's sire Fastnet Rock.
