Gelding Makes a Stakes-Winner of Violate

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 15
Stakes-placed five times previously and a good fourth in the 2017 Group I Queensland Derby, Violate has always been promising to win a stakes race and having been gelded during a winter spell has quickly soared to new heights.

Having his first run since May, the Brent Stanley trained five year-old relished the 1400 metres of the Listed VRC Sofitel Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, powering to the line to win by a commanding two lengths for Noel Callow.

"That was a great win, he's going to be a much better racehorse as a gelding," said Brent Stanley.

Violate - images Grant Courtney"He's been placed in plenty of Group races and always had the ability, but he's a real racehorse now.

"We'll sit back and make a plan for him, but races from a mile to 2000 metres will be in his range."

A $70,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Cloud 9 Thoroughbreds from the draft of Turangga Farm, Violate has the overall record of three wins and nine placings from 28 starts with over $366,000 in prizemoney.

Bred and offered for sale by Turangga Farm, Violate is the best of two winners from Shantha's Girl, an unraced Redoute's Choice daughter of Group I VRC Emirates Stakes winner Sky Cuddle.

A three-quarter sister to Group III winner and multiple Group I placed Champagne Cuddles, Shantha's Girl was sold for $155,000 at the Turangga Farm Dispersal to Ollie Tait's Twin Hills and is due to foal to American Pharoah (USA) this spring.

Violate is the 47th stakes-winner for Widden Stud's flagship sire Sebring, who stands at $66,000 this spring.
