Melbourne Cup Winning Trainer Secures $625,000 Sebring Colt

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 10

Widden Stud’s much missed Sebring achieved his best result of the sale so far at Magic Millions on Friday when a stunning colt from Miss Rose de Lago fetched $625,000 to the bid of Danny O’Brien.

$625,000 Sebring colt from Miss Rose de LagoConsigned by Widden Stud, the colt was bred by Barry McRostie and is the first foal of Group II winning Encosta de Lago mare Miss Rose de Lago, who won just shy of $1million in prizemoney.

The Melbourne Cup winning trainer prepared Miss Rose de Lago and found her son impossible to resist.

“We’ve mostly been buying below the average at this sale, but we splashed out on this colt,” O’Brien said in his post sale comments.

“I trained his mother and he’s very much in the mould of her, a lot of similarities.

“We knew he’d be popular and he did make us stretch, but we’re glad we got him.”

This colt is a clone for his mum Miss Rose de Lago

An outstanding sire that has left over 50 stakes-winners, Sebring died in February last year and his final crop of foals were born last spring.
