Special Colt from Blue Hen a Twin Hills Standout

Twin Hills Stud will present some real quality at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale starting this Sunday including a special colt from an acclaimed blue hen that has something you rarely see at a yearling sale – the one dam pedigree page.

Imported Danehill mare Starspangled (IRE) is the dam of two Group I winners – Youngstar and Funstar- and also the grand-dam of two more – Tofane and No Compromise.

It’s a prolific Black Type family that has had success in Australia and New Zealand and also in Japan where Funstar and Youngstar are now at stud, the latter already on the board as a producer having left Group II winner Eri King, who has also placed at G1 level.

Lot 369 - the full brother to Group I winner Funstar.

Olly Tait and his team are proud to offer Lot 369 on behalf of his breeder John Sheather, a colt by Cox Plate winner Adelaide (IRE) from Starspangled, who has had 10 foals to race eight winners including Starphistocated (4m Churchill (IRE), who won the Midway event at Rosehill last Saturday and has now won nearly $250,000 in prizemoney.

The colt in this sale is a full brother to Funstar, who won the Group I ATC Flight Stakes and racked up three more G1 placings and retired with over $1.2million in the bank.

“What a mare Starspangled has been and this is a lovely colt that is well balanced, has plenty of strength and an attractive head,” said Olly Tait.

“His female pedigree is hard to match and he is bred to win races at the highest level.”

The Twin Hills draft also features colts by two of the hottest young sires in the country in Too Darn Hot (GB), who sired Tropicus to win the Group I MRC Oakleigh Plate last Saturday and Ghaiyyath (IRE), who has the favourite Observer in the Group I VRC Australian Guineas this Saturday.

Lot 105 Colt Ghaiyyath (IRE) x Hirondelle, by Teofilo (IRE)

Third foal of a placed half-sister to recently stakes-placed 2YO filly Image Artist and G3 placed Cristobal, the dam of G2 winner Exploring from the family of Champion 3YO Colt Trapeze Artist, Group I winner Crawl tracing back on his tail female line to Golden Slipper winner Fairy Walk.

Bred on similar Dubawi (Sire of Ghaiyyath) x Teofilo cross to G1 winners Coroebus and Ezeliya.

Olly’s notes - This colt has been a quality horse from when he was born. He really is beautifully bred. Ghaiyyath is doing so well and had the $625,000 sale-topper at Inglis Classic and cross that with great, old Woodland’s blood along with a lovely model and the sky is the limit.

Lot 457 Colt Too Darn Hot (GB) x Zoumatic, by Zoustar

Second foal of a placed three-quarter sister to G3 placed The Dabble Effect from the family of G1 winners Paulele, Merchant Navy, Bonaria and current sprint superstar Joliestar, who is by Zoustar, whose daughters are making their presence felt at stud.

Zoustar mares have already produced four stakes-winners headed by last Saturday’s Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Streisand.

Olly’s notes- The Too Darn Hot colt has really come together as we have gotten closer to this sale. He is a good size for one by the sire, he has plenty of strength and good leg conformation. Too Darn Hot is exceptional and given this colt’s pedigree and being out of a Zoustar mare, he promises to be quick.

Lot 39 Colt Pinatubo x Estijmaam, by Exceed and Excel

From the second crop of Pinatubo, who has produced three stakes horses from his first Australian 2yo crop including Zambales, who was fourth in the G1 Blue Diamond and is bred on the exact same cross as this colt. This fellow is a half-brother to four winners headed by stakes-winner Do You Just, won a juvenile stakes race by seven lengths and is now in Hong Kong with Tony Cruz.

Olly’s notes - This is an excellent colt out of an excellent mare. He is big and strong and well conformed. He has a strong head and a nice hindquarter. He has high class siblings and is an ideal horse to race in either Australia or Asia.

Lot 121 Filly Street Boss (USA) x Inahappydaze, by All Too Hard

Second foal of a winning half-sister to three stakes horses and daughter of G1 placed SW Happy Hippy, who goes back to the family of Group I winning sprinter Notoire and current quality G2 winning filly Salty Pearl.

All Too Hard mares are  beginning to make their mark and have produced four SW’s including exciting filly Sass Appeal.

Olly’s notes - What a stallion Street Boss has proven to be. He produces horses of the highest quality – Tentyris, Tempted, Pericles, plus new season 2YO SW’s Closer to Free and Calamari Ring! This is an attractive filly that moves well and, whilst not necessarily looking like an early 2yo, she looks fast and has a great Australian pedigree.

Lot 276 Filly Dundeel x Princess of Queens, by Magnus

Half-sister to Emblazon, who has now won four races in Hong Kong, the last three in succession and is from quality racemare Princess of Queens, a G3 winner and full sister to G3 winner Prince of Brooklyn and also G3 placed Duke of Brunswick.

From a real running family tracing back to fourth dam Research, the Champion 3YO and Australian Horse of the Year. There is residual value with this filly going forward as Princess of Queens has a Zoustar filly to follow and is back in foal to the champion sire.

Olly’s notes - Princess Of Queens was a high class racemare and she produces lovely foals. This has been a nice filly from the beginning. This is a good pedigree and her half-brother in Hong Kong is very good and she also has a 2YO half-brother by Home Affairs with Annabel and Rob Archibald.
