Te Akau Celebrate European Stakes Success

Media Release - Thursday May 3

Torcedor completed a unique treble overnight when he triumphed in the Group III Sagaro Stakes (3000m) at Ascot.

"In the last five days, we have won Group races in three different countries starting in Singapore last Friday night with Distinctive Darci winning a Group Two, we then won the Travis Stakes with Our Abaddean and now Torcedor," Te Akau principal David Ellis said.

"Torcedor was a horse I paid 70,000 euros for at Deauville in France and had him syndicated before he was even on our web site."

Fastnet Rock has been a big winner for Te AkauHis New Zealand owners include Sir Patrick Hogan, Sir Peter Vela and Laurie Laxon.

"His next start will be in the Ascot Gold Cup and he's out of a full-sister to Yeats, who won the race four times in a row," Ellis said.

The latest win of Torcedor, who is trained in Ireland by Jessica Harrington, has continued Te Akau's run of success with the progeny of Fastnet Rock.

"This season we've also won a Group One with Age Of Fire and a Group One with Avantage," Ellis said.

Victory in the Ascot Gold Cup (4000m) would also put Torcedor's connections in line for a mammoth payday with a million-pound bonus on offer to any horse winning the Gold Cup, the Goodwood Cup (3200m) and the Lonsdale Cup (3200m). – NZ Racing Desk.
