Nicks That Click – European Breeders Jump on the Bandwagon

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 21
Coolmore's champion sire Fastnet Rock is powering through another stellar book of mares at their Jerry's Plains headquarters this spring, but earlier this year he was plying his trade in Ireland.

Figures highlighted in a Racing Post story reveal that of the 133 mares covered by Fastnet Rock in Ireland this year 49 of them were by Galileo, some 37% of his book.

Fastnet RockTwo other mares are out of daughters of Galileo, while eight are by Galileo's sire Sadler's Wells and nine more are by that other great son of Sadler's Wells, Montjeu.

The reasoning behind this is simple, a nick that clicks!

Fastnet Rock and Galileo combine in the pedigrees of 59 winners from 85 runners with a high 69.4% winners to runners.

15 stakes-winners result from the nick including five Group I winners sired directly by Fastnet Rock from mares by Galileo.

This year's Irish matings will result in foals in 2018 that will be two and three year-olds in 2020 and 2021, so expect a lot more European success to come from Fastnet Rock.
