Juvenile Trial Watch - Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Friday February 6

Four heats at Canterbury on Friday were won by juveniles and three were unraced youngsters including a $1million Snitzel colt, while G3 Gimcrack Stakes winner Shiki was also sent around following her midfield finish in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic last month.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Shiki duly won her heat as you would expect for a filly of her experience and it was the quickest of the four juvenile heats.

The Anthony and Sam Freedman trained $1million Snitzel colt Avengers had the blinkers on for the first time in winning his heat and scored by a a length and half. It was his third trial and second this preparation.

Bred by Arrowfield, Avengers is closely related to champion sire Not a Single Doubt and dual G1 winning sire King’s Legacy, so you can see why the he appealed to a stallion syndicate with China Horse Club/ Newgate and partners snapping him up him at Magic Millions.

His yearling half-brother by Dundeel heads to Inglis Premier as Lot 22.

The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton stable love their Kiwi breds and Hello Youmzain (Fr) gelding Concrete Storm is now two for two at the trials.

A $120,000 Karaka Book 1 purchase, Concrete Storm is from a winning sister to G3 winner Showbeel from the family of dual G1 winning stayer Showella.

The second trial winner from the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable was Palace Pier (GB) colt Wolf Gap, who stormed home down the outside for an eye-catching win at his second trial.

A $280,000 Magic Millions purchase from Arrowfield, Wolf Gap is a half-brother to G3 placed winner Katsumi Orochi and two more winners with his dam Bandol, doing a good job with three foals to race all winners.

Her yearling colt by Maurice (Jpn) is entered for Magic Millions Gold Coast March as Lot 65.
