Letzbeglam Blows Them Away in BD Fillies Prelude

Mark Smith - Saturday February 8

The favoured pair of Fresh and A Beautiful Night were nowhere to be seen in Saturday’s $200,000 Group II Neds Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for fillies at Caulfield, which might have seen the emergence of a new star in the Snitzel filly Letzbeglam.

There was not a whiff of a fluke here either. Caught three deep on the speed, Letzbeglam came clear in the closing stages under Brett Prebble to defeat the I Am Invincible filly Muntaseera by two and a quarter lengths with the Medaglia d’Oro (USA) filly Geist a half-head back in third.Snitzel's daughter Letzbeglam - images Grant Courtney

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young for Cambridge Stud’s Jo Lindsay, Letzbeglam impressed on debut when a two-length winner of a 1000m maiden at Werribee on January 21.

“We were a little bit hesitant because of the draw today, we thought she might have to work to hard, she was three deep without cover and took some time to changed legs up the straight but once she did she found another couple of lengths,” Young said.

“She’s a well-bred Snitzel filly and it’s great for Brendon and Jo Lindsay of Cambridge Stud who have done a lot for New Zealand racing.

“We will put her in cotton wool when we get home, it’s just fantastic. Prebble used his initiative and kept her moving forward when she jumped so good.”

Purchased by Cambridge Stud for $280,000 out of the Vinery Stud draft at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Letzbeglam is a sister to the stakes-placed Snazz 'n' Charm.Letzbeglam as a yearling

Their dam Miss Charming (USA) ( Forestry) is a half-sister to the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks and Grade 1 Hollywood Park Matriarch Stakes winner Tout Charmant (Slewvescent) and the Grade II winner and Grade 1 placed Dancing House (Tapit) out of the Grade III winner Charm a Gendarme (Batonnier).

Miss Charming (USA) has a filly foal by Hellbent and was covered by Invader last spring.

Letzbeglam inches Snitzel ever closer to a milestone 100 stakes-winners. She is stakes-winner 97 for the Arrowfield Stud phenomenon.
