Third Stakes Winner for Brazen Beau

Darley Stud's dual Group 1 winner Brazen Beau was represented by his third stakes winner and first Group winner when the Gerald Ryan-trained gelding Colada scored an upset win in Saturday's Group II Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) at Randwick.

Taken straight to the front by apprentice Robbie Dolan, Colada simply galloped his opposition into the ground and in doing so lowered the 1500 metre record of set by the recent Epsom Handicap winner Kolding.

Brandenburg, who was the subject of a long price betting plunge was two lengths back in second with then winner's better-fancied stablemate Bottega was a neck back in third. (image Steve Hart).

"Robbie has only ridden him twice and ridden him that way two times although admittedly one was a maiden," Ryan told AAP.

"He's had a terrific prep. With due respect to Tommy ( Berry) he went too slowly at Newcastle with the big weight and ran third.

"He just needs to roll and freewheel.

"(Owners) Sun Stud are great to train for. I said to them six weeks ago to target this race. It was finding out the proper way to ride this horse."

Ryan said both three-year-olds would head to the $1 million Bondi in two weeks.

A homebred for Sun Stud, Colada (pictured as a yearling) was passed in short of her $120,000 reserve at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

He is the first winner for the imported Volponi mare Clearly Foxy (USA) who won the Grade III Natalma Stakes at Woodbine and was third in the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park.

From the family of Spendthrift Farm's dual Grade 1 winner Bolt D'Oro, Clearly Foxy (USA) has a 2yo filly by Fighting Sun and a yearling colt by Territories (IRE).

She was covered by Brazen Beau again last spring but missed.
