Too Darn Hot Nomination Headlines Inglis August (Late) Online Sale

Media Release - Thursday August 14

A nomination in Champion First and Second Season Sire Too Darn Hot (Dubawi) – the last available nomination to be offered before the breeding season starts - will be offered in the Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Sale.

Too Darn Hot

The G1-winning Darley shuttle stallion was crowned the Southern Hemisphere’s Leading First Season Sire in 2023/24, creating history by breaking all previous earnings records in the process.

He then claimed back-to-back titles when winning the Leading Second Season Sire in 2024/25.

Such has been the astonishing start to his stallion career in the Southern Hemisphere, Too Darn Hot has sired the winners of more Group races than well-known Australian stallions Snitzel, Fastnet Rock, I Am Invincible and newly crowned Champion Sire Zoustar, at the same stage of their careers.

Too Darn Hot’s outstanding first crop is the best in Australia this century with more Group and Stakes wins than any other stallion by the end of their progeny’s three-year-old year season, headed by four-time G1 winner Broadsiding (pictured).

In the sale ring, his yearlings have sold up to $1.9m, horses-in-training $2.4m (Too Darn Lizzie) while Broadsiding now stands on the same stallion roster at Darley.

The sale of the Too Darn Hot nomination is a collaboration between Godolphin, Watership Down Stud and CatWalk and will see all proceeds go directly toward funding critical research to help those living with spinal cord injuries.

Inglis Digital Business Manager Nick Melmeth said: “It’s a real honour for the Inglis Digital platform to be entrusted with this Too Darn Hot nomination which is for such a great cause.

“Too Darn Hot has proven to be a stunning success story and this is a rare and exclusive opportunity for outside breeders to gain access to him.’’

Andy Makiv, Managing Director of Godolphin Australia, said it was a wonderful opportunity to support a great cause by breeding to an elite stallion.

“Too Darn Hot has all the attributes of an outstanding stallion,’’ Makiv said.

“He returns to Australia after a season off and is almost impossible to get access to, given his achievements and popularity.

“To support CatWalk with the last available nomination to be offered before the breeding season starts is something we are very proud to be part of.”

The CatWalk Spinal Cord Injury Trust, founded by Dame Catriona Williams after she sustained a life-changing spinal cord injury in 2002, is committed to curing spinal cord injury through world-class research, global collaboration, and patient-focused initiatives.

Based in New Zealand, the Trust funds a wide range of programmes – from scientific discovery to therapeutic development - driving progress both locally and internationally toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

“Support like this is extraordinary,” Williams said. “It’s not just about funding research, it’s about giving people hope. Every dollar raised helps move us closer to our goal to see people walk again. We’re incredibly grateful to Godolphin and Watership Down for standing with us and believing in what’s possible.”

Too Darn Hot is co-owned and bred by Watership Down Stud, the UK-based operation owned by Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber.

The Darley stallion shuttles from his base at Godolphin’s Dalham Hall in the UK and here in Australia.

“As a former three-day eventer, CatWalk and Catriona’s incredible campaign are very close to my heart. I’m honoured to support her wonderful and impactful charity,” Madeleine Lloyd Webber, owner of Watership Down Stud, said.

Simon Marsh, General Manager of Watership Down Stud, agreed, adding: “We’ve supported this cause for several years now, and it continues to mean a lot to us.

“To offer a nomination to a stallion of this calibre and in doing so, help raise funds for something so important, feels like the right way to give back.’’

The Too Darn Hot nomination will be offered as lot 1 in the Inglis Digital August (Late) Online Sale, which runs from August 22-27.

Entries for the sale close midnight on Wednesday.
