Red Letter Day for Dundeel

Mark Smith - Saturday October 12

The Anthony Freedman-trained Super Seth powered home to defeat the previously unbeaten Alligator Blood in Saturday's Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) to credit Arrowfield Stud's Dundeel with his fourth winner at the highest level but the big payday didn't end there.

The Tasmanian superstar The Inevitable has a growing band of followers on the mainland following his win in the inaugural running of the $500,000 Silver Eagle (1300m) at Randwick while forty minutes earlier Castelvecchio was a fighting second to Shadow Hero (Pierro) in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.

The Sunshine Coast-trained Alligator Blood (All Too Hard) looked all over the winner of the $2 million feature at Caulfield on Saturday but he had been in the lead for a long time when Super Seth launched his run from back in the field.

"Super Seth has always shown he had that sort of ability and the winkers obviously worked really well for him today," Freedman said.

"It's a great thrill. He's obviously a stallion now.

"I wasn't convinced he'd run a mile I must be honest. I thought he might end up back the Coolmore (Stud Stakes).

"The target was always to try and win a stallion making race with him.

"He had a good two-year-old prep and he came back well, but he needed to lift to win today and I think the winkers obviously did that.

"He'll go for a break and concentrate on the autumn."

A $280,000 Inglis Easter Book II purchase for Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from the Arrowfield draft, Super Seth runs for Pinecliff Racing and partners and advances his record to 4 wins and 1 third from 7 starts with earnings of $1,416,100.

Bred by Arrowfield and Planette Thoroughbred, Super Seth is a half-brother to the Listed VRC Poseidon Stakes and Listed Scone RC Inglis 3YO Guineas winner Wild Planet (Animal Kingdom). He is the third winner from Salutations, a placed Redoute's Choice daughter of Group II winning sprinter Toast of the Coast.

Super Seth has a 2yo sister named Salutadeel and Arrowfield sold a another sister at the Magic Millions this year for $70,000 and Salutations is back in foal again to Dundeel.

Six-time Group 1 winner Dundeel is fully booked this spring at Arrowfield at a fee of $66,000.
