Caulfield Cup Goal for Fastnet Stayer

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 21
Talented Fastnet Rock import Brimham Rocks (GB) proved a source of frustration last spring when he notched placings in several big races including the Group I ATC The Metropolitan, but booked his ticket to the Caulfield Cup with a stylish victory in the Group III MRC Foundation Cup at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Chris Waller trained gelding was ready to hit form at his third run back from a spell and found the line strongly in the 2000 metre staying test to win by more than a length.

"He was certainly convincing today," said stable representative Johanne Taylor.

"He's a horse that I think has a lot of upside to him and whether Chris wants to give him another run, I don't know if it's completely necessary, but the options are there if Chris wants to.

"I think on what we saw today, he's fit and well and we know the trip isn't an issue for him."

Brimham Rocks (image Grant Courtney)  has won five races and placed nine times from 27 starts earning over $600,000 in prizemoney, but this was his first Black Type success.

Brimham Rocks was bought from the Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale for 340,000 guineasHe was an expensive purchase as a tried horse from the 2017 Tattersalls Horse in Training Sale, purchased by Waller Racing for 340,000 guineas.

Brimham Rocks it the only winner from stakes-placed Colima, a half-sister by Authorized to Group III winner Oh Goodness Me and stakes-winner Eradicate.

He becomes the 149th stakes-winner worldwide for Coolmore's champion sire Fastnet Rock, whose high class son Dream Force was a gallant second to Avilius in the Group I ATC George Main Stakes at Randwick.
