One to Watch – Seymour

Tara Madgwick - Thursday June 6
Tony Santic has bred some amazing horses under his Makybe Stud banner and two of the best are Makybe Diva and Starspangledbanner, who combined to produce a winner at Seymour on Thursday.

StarspangledbannerPrepared by Chris Waller, three year-old filly Demand Attention was bred by Makybe and not surprisingly was retained to race.

Given time to mature, she was having her fourth start today over 2027 metres and led all the way to score a dominant two and a quarter length win.

"She's a horse that's probably getting out to her right trip now and like her mother she probably enjoys a bit of give in the ground," winning rider Damien Oliver told racing.com.

"Obviously the distance is what she's been looking for, although, in her make-up, she's more like a Starspangledbanner than her mother, without a doubt.

"It's always good for those champion mares to get a winner. We know some of the progeny have found it hard at the track, but she's got onto the soft ground today and out to a distance that she's liked, so that's a good positive for her coming into this time of year."

She may never be as good as either of her parents, but Demand Attention is now a winner and is the fifth winner for her triple Melbourne Cup wining dam from seven to race with the best of her offspring being stakes-placed Divanation.

Makybe Diva has an unraced two year-old filly by Brazen Beau called Sublime Diva and a weanling filly by Written Tycoon. She missed to Divanation’s sire All Too Hard last year and was then covered by More than Ready (USA).
