Foxwedge Headed to Victoria

Tara Madgwick - Monday January 21
After covering just 68 mares at Newgate Farm in the Hunter Valley in 2018, Group I producing sire Foxwedge has been relocated to Victoria to stand at Woodside Park Stud.

FoxwedgeThe bar for success is set very high in the Hunter Valley and in recent times horses such as All American, Manhattan Rain, Duporth and Smart Missile have all tasted Group I success as sires after departing from the region.

Already a proven Group I sire of notable fillies Foxplay, Volpe Veloce and the UK based Urban Fox, Foxwedge is sure to be a popular addition at Woodside Park where he will join Written Tycoon, Rich Enuff, Cable Bay (IRE) and Tosen Stardom (Jpn).

A Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock, Foxwedge had just one yearling sold at the recent Magic Millions Yearling Sale, a colt from Bay Trixie that made $320,000 when bought by McEvoy Mitchell Racing.

He is the sire of 11 stakes-winners in both hemispheres and has 57.6% winners to runners proving a reliable source of winners and Black Type performers, so is sure to be a popular choice for Victorian breeders looking for proven value..

A fee will be announced in due course.

Footnote : It should be noted Smart Missile, another Fastnet Rock son that went to stud in the same year as Foxwedge, had his fee reduced to $13,200 at Twin Hills Stud last spring after departing Arrowfield Stud and he covered a whopping 222 mares, his biggest book ever.
