$225,000 Post Impressionist tops Inglis Digital

Media Release - Wednesday November 19

Today’s Inglis Digital sale-topper Post Impressionist will be targeted at next year’s Warrnambool Cup after selling to Victorian owner Shane Morrissy for $225,000.

Moments after securing Post Impressionist in the November (Late) Sale, Morrissy confirmed his latest equine acquisition would be transferred to Warrnambool trainer Simon Ryan and be aimed toward his home Cup in early May.

Post Impressionist was offered by Anthony Freedman Racing on behalf of the 7YO’s owners Nick and Lloyd Williams and James Packer.

“I’ve bought a few horses through Inglis Digital over the years, including some ex-Lloyd ones and had some luck so I was more than happy to go again,’’ Morrissy said.

“It’s just such a transparent platform and it works so well for both vendors and buyers, which I think is evident with this horse today again.

“$225,000 was about my limit, I must say. I was happy to get him at that price but I also didn’t have too many clicks left in me to keep going.

“Post Impressionist has been running in some pretty significant Spring Carnival races of late and he was only beaten 1.9 lengths in a Herbert Power a couple of starts ago so we believe he’s still got plenty left to give.

“We’ll bring him back a notch and target him at the Warrnambool Cup, he’ll go to Simon Ryan to be trained and hopefully we can have plenty of fun with him.’’

Nick Williams was similarly pleased with today’s outcome.

“The price is very reasonable from both parties’ perspective, we’re definitely happy with $225,000 and I hope the buyer is happy to have secured him for that price,’’ Williams said.

“We’ve been a fan of Inglis Digital since the very first sale I’d say, it’s a great platform and this is a great result and it’s just a great tool for everybody in the industry.

“Post Impressionist is a horse who, is he going to win a Melbourne Cup? No, he’s not, but he’s going to win a decent staying race for someone, he could win an Adelaide Cup or something like that and they can have a lot of fun with him.

“The beauty with him is he’s recently passed the Racing Victoria vet protocol for the Spring Carnival so he’s as sound as they come and has a solid racing future ahead of him.’’

Today’s second-top lot was the three-in-one package Moonquake, a half sister to four-time G1 winner Hartnell and offered in foal to Shinzo and with a Maurice colt FAF.

Offered by River Junction, Moonquake sold to Phoenix Investments for $220,000.

“It’s a really good result, I’m really happy,’’ River Junction’s Troy Schmidt said.

“It was a strong package but I got what I wanted for her so I’m happy. It was all so easy with Inglis Digital too, I did it all myself and had no problems, I couldn’t ask for more really.’’

Also featuring in today’s November (Late) Sale was a Godolphin draft of nine racehorses and three race fillies, which grossed a combined $505,000.

The highest seller among the Godolphin offering was the 4YO Tarpaulin (Harry Angel), which sold to Rosemary Lewis for $105,000.

“We’ve been trying for the past few Inglis online sales to buy another one but just kept missing out so it’s great to buy Tarpaulin today,’’ Lewis said.

“We’re based in Cooma and Matt Kelly in Canberra trains our horses and he will train Tarpaulin as well.

“Matt looks after them like he’d look after his own mum and dad, he has a great work ethic so hopefully this horse can be racing in the metro areas and we can have plenty of success with him.’’

Previous Godolphin drafts offered on Inglis Digital have featured subsequent Stakes winners including Alegron, Barber and Sandpaper.

Upon the completion of today’s sale, there have now been 122 lots realise $100,000 or more on Inglis Digital this year.

In total the November (Late) Sale grossed $2,496,900.

Entries are now open for the Inglis Digital December (Early) Sale, which will run from November 28 until December 3.

The sale will include last start winner Aristocrat (Zoustar), which beat 11 rivals to break his maiden in style over 1300m at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

The lightly raced Michael Freedman-trained 3YO is Hong Kong qualified and his progressive profile is likely to see him appeal to a broad cross section of domestic and international buyers.

Entries for the December (Early) Sale will close at midnight next Wednesday, November 26.
