First Stakes Winner for Brazen Beau

Mark Smith - Saturday December 15

In recent years the Inglis Nursery has thrown up two Golden Slipper winners in Mossfun and She Will Reign, as well as a Blue Diamond Stakes winner in Extreme Choice and Saturday's edition, looked a strong renewal of the valuable race.

Second behind Godolphin's impressive Lonhro filly Athiri when making his career debut at Rosehill Gardens back on December 1, the Star Thoroughbred colour-bearer Accession (pictured Steve Hart) earned her sire Brazen Beau a first stakes-winner in the $500k Inglis Nursery (RL) (1000m) at Randwick.

Given the run of the race by Hugh Bowman, Accession had first run on the Max Lees Classic winner Strasbourg (I Am Invincible) who charged home over the final 100 metres to miss by three-quarters of a length with Namimo (Choisir) back in third.

Leading syndicator Denise Martin believes the Chris Waller-trained colt has a bright future.

"He's a special colt. We found him at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale from Widden.  I love Widden where (former champion Star Thoroughbred owned) Sebring stands," said Star Thoroughbreds Denise Martin.

"I just thought he was special from the beginning. He has the best attitude and I think that is the mark of a really lovely two-year-old when they can handle the work and all the pressures, and I think he might be a really good colt. "

Chris Waller said it was exciting to have a smart colt from the first crop of his star performer Brazen Beau.

"There is a lot of dad about him, which is really special for me and my team," Waller said.

"Denise specs these horses and works tirelessly to get them done and get the system working early with two-year-olds."

Purchased by Star Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd / Waller Racing for $300,000 out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2018 Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Accession (pictured as a yearling ) is the second winner from as many foals to race out of the talented racemare Ready As Elle.

The 5-time winning daughter of More Than Ready and the stakes-placed Strategic mare Maxerelle is a half-sister to the Champion Sprinter in Singapore in 2015, Emperor Max (Holy Roman Emperor).

Ready As Elle has a yearling coly by Zoustar that has been entered to the 2019 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale by Widden Stud, and she foaled a Star Witness filly on November 12.

Accession is the second winner for Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes and Group 1 Newmarket Handicap winner Brazen Beau who stands at Darley's Northwood property in Victoria,

Brazen Beau's first winner was the reigning Golden Slipper favourite Tassort.
