Shamus Award Winner in South Africa

Two year-old Shamus Award filly Jailhouse Jazz opened her account at the second time of asking when saluting at Vaal in South Africa on Thursday.

Jailhouse Jazz as a yearlingTrained by Mike de Kock, Jailhouse Jazz improved on her debut fourth to score an easy two and a quarter length win beating older rivals in the 1450 metre maiden as favourite.

A $90,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Form Bloodstock from the Two Bays Farm draft, she was a successful pinhook having been sold first at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale where she made $60,000 when offered by Maluka Thoroughbreds.

Jailhouse Jazz is the first winner for This Lady Rocks, a winning Fastnet Rock three-quarter sister to South African triple Group I winner and Champion 3YO Filly Alboran Sea.

Jailhouse Jazz is the fourth winner (one in The Phillippines) for Cox Plate hero Shamus Award, who stands at Widden Stud this spring at a fee of $11,000.
