Shamus Award Churning Out The Winners

Mark Smith - Wednesday December 4

If you think you have noticed Shamus Award popping up regularly in the winner’s column, you’d be right.

In the past four weeks the Rosemont Stud resident has been churning out the winners and in the last fortnight alone he has had the Moonee Valley winner Sovereign Award and the Sunshine Coast winner Joy’s Reward (November 24), the Strathalbyn winner Cosmic Award (November 27), and the Morphettville winner It’s a Shame (November 30).

On the first day of December, Shamus Award had three runners and they all won; Joy’s Reward at the Sunshine Coast, Shamamour at Newcastle and Shamino at Murray Bridge.

The Travis Doudle-trained Ethical Solution kept the run going in a 1200 metre maiden at Gawler on Wednesday.Shamus Award on a winning run - image Mark Smith

Ridden by Jason Holder, Ethical Solution travelled sweetly midfield before making a sweeping run eight-wide on the turn to run down Meadows Young Buck (Wanted) by one and a quarter lengths with Kanzo (Pluck) one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

“She settled nicely the speed was on but what I really liked about her was when I asked her for an effort she really extended,” Holder said.

Sporting the same silks carried by her sire to victory in the Cox Plate and Australian Guineas, Ethical Solution is a sister to the 4-time winner Ethical Dilemma who has won her last two starts in Tasmania. She is the fifth named foal of the Count Dubois mare Miss Ethics (SAF) who was a Group III winner in South Africa.

Golden Grove Stud offered a full-brother to Ethical Solution and Ethical Dilemma at the 2019 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to Michael Hibbs for $10,000.

Shamus Award (Snitzel) is standing the current season at Rosemont Stud at a fee of $11,000.
