Foxwedge Flyer Wins on Debut

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday May 16
Promising two year-old Foxwedge filly Shapita scored a brilliant debut victory at Ascot on Wednesday.

The Simon Miller trained filly had shown good ability at the trials and was sent out favourite for the 1100 metre juvenile event.

Shapita as a yearlingShe led throughout and powered clear to win by a length and three-quarters in a thoroughly dominant display.

A $60,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Aquanita Racing from the Newgate Farm draft, Shapita was bred by SF Bloodstock and is a three-quarter sister to stakes-placed Wassergeist and is the fifth winner from Group II winner Te Akau Rose.

Te Akau Rose has a weanling filly by Wandjina that has been withdrawn from the Magic Millions Weanling Sale and was covered last spring by Flying Artie.

Shapita is a nice prospect for Foxwedge, who has sired two Group I winning fillies in Foxplay and Volpe Veloce and stands at a fee of $22,000 at Newgate Farm this spring.
