One to Watch – Gosford

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 7
He’s the latest winner from the famed South Australian ‘Discreet’ family, but does not have the well -known moniker as part of his name.

Three year-old Sebring gelding Badge of Gameness had two unplaced runs for James Cummings back in February behind quality winners Trapeze Artist and Toga Picta before spelling and being transferred to John Thompson.

He resumed with a fifth at Hawkesbury last month, but relished the step up to 1600 metres to score a half length win at Gosford on Thursday.

Entered for upcoming feature races including the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas, Badge of Gameness was retained to race by his breeders Kitchwin Hills, Neil Werrett and Max Whitby.

He is the first foal of Group II placed Exceed and Excel mare Always Discreet, a half-sister to Group I SAJC Australasian Oaks winner Maybe Discreet and full sister to Group III winner Just Discreet.

Badge of Gameness appeared in the 2014 Breednet Foal Gallery for Kitchwin Hills.
