Operating for over 150 years under the ownership of the Thompson family, Widden Stud is a name synonymous with champion sires – Marscay, Vain, Bletchingly, Todman, General Nediym, Northern Meteor & Stratum – brilliant, tough, speed oriented horses that left a legacy of greatness for generations to come. Geography and mother nature have bestowed tremendous natural gifts on Widden, making it one of the most picturesque farms in the world, offering an unparalleled environment for young thoroughbreds. Located on 7,000 acres of spectacular horse country in the Widden Valley, the farm features rich alluvial creek flats sheltered by magnificent sandstone cliffs providing pristine and tranquil surrounds.
First past the post at Wyong on June 24, talented Anders filly Sapling lost that race on protest, but quickly made amends when returning to the same track on Saturday to score her first actual victory.
Five heats for juveniles at the Warwick Farm trials on Tuesday morning included three unraced youngsters by Extreme Choice, Anders and Capitalist, plus we got the first look at the $1.4million Wootton Bassett (GB) colt from Sunlight.
The $125,000 Pat O’Shea Plate (1200m) was run at Toowoomba on Friday in testing ground and Anders filly Casino Bay did best in the gloomy conditions to post her first win at just her second start.
First season sire Anders put a third winner on the board at Morphettville on Saturday and Frothy Macaw is an interesting filly that carries the colours of John Singleton’s Strawberry Hill Stud.
There were four heats for juveniles at Randwick on Monday including a couple of interesting winners, one unraced by Too Darn Hot (GB) and one bred on a nick that works for Tricolours Thoroughbreds, plus a commanding trial winner at Hawkesbury by first season sire Anders.
