First Winner for Pride of Dubai

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 26
The Lisa Latta-trained filly Platinum Dubai showed professionalism to take out the Otaki Mail (800m) for two-year-olds on Thursday in New Zealand to become the first winner for Coolmore's dual Group I winning sire Pride of Dubai.

Platinum Dubai - Race Images Peter RuberyShe led throughout to land the prize by a length and three-quarters in a dominant display.

The talented filly is Karaka Million eligible and that will be a long-range target, having been sold through the draft of Ardsley Stud for $100,000 at the New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 Yearling Sale.

"She is a natural two-year-old. She's a precocious little filly," Latta said.

"We will just give her a week in the paddock and then all going well she will go to the Wellesley Stakes (Listed, 1000m).

"We were looking for an early type of filly and Neville McAlister, who owns half of her with Lincoln Farms, really liked her pedigree and then we liked her on type as well.

"She has got a very good brain and that bit of toughness that is good to see in a filly."

Platinum Dubai is the second winner from Musical Lady, a half-sister by Carnegie (IRE) to Group I ATC Australian Oaks winner Rena's Lady, Group II winner Vatuvei and Group III winner Raise.

A brilliant two year-old that won both the Group I MRC Blue diamond stakes and Group I ATC Sires Produce Stakes, Pride of Dubai has been super popular at Coolmore covering nearly 500 mares in his first three seasons.

By Street Cry (IRE) from the family of champion sires Invincible spirit and Kodiac, Pride of Dubai stands at a fee of $38,500 this spring.
