Toronado Winner Sign of Things to Come

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 19
So You Think and Dundeel have set a high standard for sire sons of the late Epsom Derby winner High Chaparral (IRE) with Swettenham Stud's Toronado (IRE) also showing the promise of good things to come after making a strong start to the new season with his fifth winner since August 1 at Sale on Thursday.

ToronadoThree year-old colt High Torque was not beaten far in his first two starts and when stepped up to 1600 metres for this all age maiden steamed home to win by three-quarters of a length.

Trained at Pakenham by Dean Grass, High Torque was a $20,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Yulong Park draft for Gippsland Bloodstock and then passed in when offered at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale.

He is the fourth winner from four foals to race from Moussaieff, a half-sister by Encosta de Lago to Group I winner Red Dazzler.

High Torque has plenty of pedigree as his next two dams are by champion sires Danehill and Vain, while his fourth dam is none other than champion filly Toltrice, the darling of the 1972 Melbopurne Spring Carnival when she won the Thousand Guineas, Wakeful Stakes and VRC Oaks.
