Fast Track 2026/27 Launches Nationally: Applications Now Open

Media Release - Friday February 27

Thoroughbred Breeders Australia (TBA) has officially launched applications for the 2026/27 Fast Track program — a nationally recognised traineeship designed to build the next generation of thoroughbred breeding professionals.

Now entering its ninth year, Fast Track continues to strengthen Australia’s breeding workforce by combining paid employment with structured training and nationally accredited study.

Successful applicants will undertake a 12-month traineeship, working full-time on a participating stud farm while completing a Certificate III in Horse Breeding delivered through TAFE NSW.

TBA & Aushorse CEO Andrew Hore-Lacy said Fast Track plays a critical role in workforce development and building sustainable industry pathways.

“Fast Track is more than a job: it’s a comprehensive and well-structured career launchpad. The program gives young people a valuable opportunity to enter the breeding industry through paid employment, formal education and hands-on experience with some of Australia’s leading stud farms.”

The program is open to applicants Australia-wide. While TBA aims to place trainees within their home state where possible, placements may occur interstate depending on availability and industry demand.

Graduates receive a nationally recognised qualification and join a growing alumni network working across the breeding industry in roles including broodmare and stallion operations, foaling, yearling preparation, veterinary support, sales preparation and more.

Since its inception in 2018, Fast Track has welcomed participants from diverse backgrounds — from school leavers and retail workers to tradespeople and racing stable staff — the majority of whom have gone on to full time employment at leading stud farms across Australia, and a number have progressed to prestigious international programs such as the Irish National Stud and Godolphin Flying Start.

Applications for the 2026 cohort are currently open and close on 31 March. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed in April, with successful trainees commencing their first intensive learning block at TAFE NSW (Scone) in May before beginning full-time employment in June.

TBA encourages applications from motivated individuals seeking a long-term career in the thoroughbred breeding industry.

“Fast Track is about turning your passion into a profession,” Mr Hore-Lacy said.

“We’re looking for candidates who are ready to commit, learn and develop a rewarding career in an industry that is globally respected.”
