Few stallions have left a mark on the international thoroughbred landscape quite like Street Cry: nearly $200 million in progeny earnings!
Amazingly though, he has very few credible sire sons available in Australia, with the exception of Darley's proven source, Street Boss, who stands this season at a fee of $27,500.
That's why Victorian farms, Larneuk Stud and Bullarook Park are so excited about the prospects of the first yearlings of their respective Street Cry stallions – WOLF CRY and LAST TYPHOON.
Testimony to his athleticism, WOLF CRY was the second highest priced Street Cry colt offered at the 2014 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale when knocked down to leading agent, James Bester.
Wolf Cry wouldn't take long to reward the faith, running third behind subsequent Champion 2YO Colt (and sire) Vancouver and Group winner (and sire) Sooboog in the time honoured Breeders' Plate at Randwick.
Resuming in the autumn, Wolf Cry then ran third in both the Listed Lonhro and Group Two Skyline Stakes (behind Group One Golden Rose winner, Exosphere), while he would also capture a race – by three lengths – on the rich Magic Millions program.
Not surprisingly, Wolf Cry hails from an outstanding speed family with stakes placed Redoute's Choice dam, Starfish, being – in turn – a daughter of the Group One winning sprinter Stella Cadente. This is also the family of such precocious stars as Kenny's Best Pal, Bint Marscay, Bollinger, Mannington and, of course, the multiple Group One winner, Filante.
Expect the Wolf Crys to go early … just as broodmare owners should be doing, particularly at a fee of just $4,400.
Talking about fees, LAST TYPHOON also stands at $4,400
which, given his bona fides, is remarkable value.
Only sparingly raced and initially with Peter Moody, Last Typhoon won two races in Victoria but was retired at the end of his 3YO season with his final start in the Group Three Grand Prix Stakes.
However, when it comes to pedigree, few can boast the family connections that Last Typhoon has!
His dam, Typhoon Tracy – also trained by Moody – was Australian Horse of the Year in 2009-10 and would win six Group Ones from 1200m to a mile.
Hardly a flash in the pan, Typhoon Tracy is a daughter of Champion 2YO, Tracy's Element, who went on to produce nine winners, including Flemington stakes winner and sire, Red Element, and is the granddam of Group Two winning 2YO and sire, Shaft.
