Exceed and Excel Blueblood Goes Two for Two

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday September 4
With his baldy face and flaxen mane, powerhouse chestnut colt Standout is an easy horse to spot in a race and he zoomed home from near last to win a very competitive Benchmark 64 event for three year-olds at Randwick on Wednesday.

Exceed and Excel is the sire of StandoutThe Gerald Ryan trained son of Exceed and excel was a Breednet 'One to Watch' when scoring on debut last month at Gosford and looked special again when surging home to win in style.

Bred and retained to race by Corumbene Stud, Standout is a full brother to Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner Overreach and Group III placed Outreach, who stands at Widden stud and will have his first runners this season.

Standout may be given his chance at minor Black Type this spring, but connections feel he will be a far better horse in the autumn.

He is the fifth winner from six to race from former smart Snippets mare Bahia, a half-sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond winner and leading Victorian sire Reward for Effort, who is also by Standout's sire Exceed and Excel.

Bahia produced another colt by Exceed and Excel last year, but will have no foal this year after missing last spring.
