Record Breaking Debut Winner for Deep Field

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 17
The powerful Peter and Paul Snowden stable produced an impressive debut winner for Deep Field at Kembla on Saturday with talented colt Californiadeepshot setting a new track record for 1000 metres.

Californiadeepshot as a yearlingEasy in the market when sent off at odds of $10, he had no trouble beating his stablemate and short priced favourite Penang, a daughter of I Am Invincible also having her first start.

Californiadeepshot was allowed to find his feet by Adrian Layt and found himself back to last at one stage, but produced a sustained finishing burst that carried him straight past the leaders to win by more than a length in a sizzling 55.84 seconds.

"He doesn't really know what he's doing yet," said Adrian Layt.

"To run that time on debut… he's an exciting horse."

His sire Deep Field was no stranger to breaking records, so it's not surprising to see this apple has not fallen far from the tree.

A $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Asian Bloodstock Services from the Coolmore draft, Californiadeepshot runs for Hong Kong based owner Howard Liang and is a half-brother to Group I placed Reemah from former brilliant Group II winning Testa Rossa mare Vormista.

Californiadeepshot is the 24th first crop winner for Deep Field and is his third this season.

Deep Field stands at Newgate Farm at a fee of $44,000 this spring and is fully booked.
