Niewand as a yearlingNiewand jumped fast and tracked the lead for Dean Holland and powered to the line to win the 1000 metre maiden by more than three lengths in a dominant display as favourite.

A $175,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Kia Ora Stud draft for Merrynvale Thoroughbreds, Niewand is the second winner from stakes-winning Fastnet Rock mare She's a Fox, a full sister to Group I winner and leading sire Foxwedge.

Niewand is the 11th winner from 32 starters for Shooting to Win, whose best offspring are Group I placed Kubrick and stakes-placed Shotmaker.

The Group I winning son of Northern Meteor stands at Darley NSW this spring at a fee of $22,000.
