Second Win for Shoals Sister

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 19
Three year-old Fastnet Rock filly Tides may never be as good as her multiple Group I winning sister Shoals, but she is ending the season with a flourish after scoring an easy win at Sandown on Wednesday.

Fastnet Rock is the sire of TidesPrepared by Anthony Freedman as was her sister, Tides won her maiden at Bendigo in April and has placed in two subsequent starts before stepping up to 1600 metres for the first time today.

She revelled in the heavy ground to score a three and a half length victory, her second from just five starts.

Retained to race by her breeders John Messara and Jonathan Munz, Tides is the second winner from three foals to race from blue-blooded Hussonet (USA) mare The Broken Shore, whose first foal Shoals won $2.5 million with highlight wins in the Group I ATC Surround Stakes, VRC Myer Classic and SAJC Sangster Stakes.

The Broken Shore was bought by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $1.9 million at the Magic Millions Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014.

The Broken Shore is a metropolitan winning half-sister to Group I winners Redoute's Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors as well as Group III winner Sliding Cube and stakes-winner Echoes of Heaven.

Her third foal, two year-old Fastnet Rock colt Groundswell topped the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when fetching $2.3 million and has had one start for a fourth at Ballarat back in April. The Broken Shore also has a yearling colt by Medaglia D'Oro (USA) that was withdrawn from Inglis Easter this year.

The Broken Shore has a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock, but will have no foal this year after missing to I Am Invincible.
