Wild Planet Wins $300,000 Inglis Guineas

Media Release - Saturday May 11

Exciting 3YO Wild Planet benefited from a perfect Tommy Berry ride to score his second Stakes victory in today's $300,000 Inglis Guineas at Scone.

Wild Planet - image Steve HartWild Planet (Animal Kingdom x Salutations) was sold for $280,000 at the 2017 Australian Easter Yearling Sale by Arrowfield, out of the same draft that included Champion 2YO Estijaab and star 3YO The Autumn Sun.

He was purchased by Hawkes Racing and Andrew Williams Bloodstock and has now finished in the top three placings at nine of his 11 career starts, earning almost $400,000 in the process.

"It was some draft, and this horse was always a lovely individual,'' Arrowfield's John Messara said.

"What's happening now is the strength of our broodmare band is coming to the fore and we're lucky to have three in the top 10 stallions, so it's a nice recipe for success.

"That's really allowed us to put together some very strong drafts for Easter and will continue to do so moving forward.''

Winning co-trainer Michael Hawkes said Wild Planet was targeted for the Inglis Guineas due to its significant prizemoney bounty.

"It's a great race series. This is what it's all about, there's owners here from Adelaide and other places to be here to watch this today,'' Hawkes said.

"Winning is everything, it's all about the prizemoney and Inglis do it so well with races like this that owners can target for the big prizemoney.

"A horse like this, he's definitely going the right way.''

The Hawkes' received a pair of Swarovski Optik binoculars for being the winning trainers of an Inglis Race Series event.
