Juvenile Trial Watch – Hawkesbury

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 29
This time last year superstar colt Merchant Navy was in Ireland getting ready for his date with destiny at Royal Ascot and while his two year-old half-brother has some big shoes to fill, he took the first step towards race day with a barrier trial win at Hawkesbury on Monday.

All Too Hard is the sire of Tungsten BayTrained by Team Hawkes as was his sire All Too Hard, Tungsten Bay was having his first public outing in the 760 metre juvenile heat.

Partnered by Jay Ford, he jumped fairly, but quickly mustered speed to take the lead and cruised along comfortably with ears pricked. Held together down the running he scored an easy three-quarter length win and did everything that could be asked of him.

A half-brother to dual Group I winner Merchant Navy, Group II winner Jolie Bay and stakes-placed Zara Bay, Tungsten Bay is from Group III winning Snippets mare Legally Bay, who has had six winners from seven foals to race.

Retained to race, Tungsten Bay is the ninth living foal of Legally Bay, whose current yearling, a colt by Fastnet Rock made $2.3 million at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for Segenhoe Stud when snapped up by Aquis Farm.

After missing to Fastnet Rock in 2017, Legally Bay is due to foal again to Coolmore’s champion sire this spring.
