Hallowed Crown Breaks The Ice

Mark Smith - Saturday April 20

Making his second trip to the races, the Stuart Kendrick-trained Let's Cheer Again ploughed through the mud in a QTIS 2yo C&G Maiden Plate over 900 metres at the Gold Coast on Saturday to credit his sire Hallowed Crown with his first winner.

A fading ninth at his career debut at Eagle Farm back on December 22, Let's Cheer Again showed he had taken improvement from his 17-week break, jumping straight to the front under Daniel Griffin and despite being kept up to the mark by Iced in the early stages he dropped that son Better Than Ready rounding the home turn then safely held the challenge of Poetic Choice (Poet's Voice) to win by two and a quarter lengths.

Kendrick purchased Let's Cheer Again for $85,000 at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs In Training Sale after he failed to make his $120,000 reserve at the Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The Baramul Stud bred colt is the first foal of the Exceed And Excel mare Excessively who failed to place in four starts. She is a half-sister to Group II Bill Stutt Stakes winner Barbaricus (Lion Hunter) who placed in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes and Group 1 Caulfield Cup.

Hallowed Crown (image Mark Smith) has had just four runners to date. The son of Street Sense (USA) won the Group 1 Run To The Rose and Group 1 Randwick Guineas in a career of six wins from nine starts.

Out of a stakes-winning half-sister to Zabeel, Hallowed Crown will stand for a fee of $11,000 at Darley Stud, Kelvinside in 2019.
