One to Watch – Newcastle

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 15
Winner of both the Group I Queensland Derby and Oaks in 1999, blue-blooded Danehill (USA) mare Camarena died in 2017 and her last foal became a winner at Newcastle on Tuesday for Darley’s promising young sire Hallowed Crown.

Hallowed Crown is the sire of TisaneThe James Cummings trained filly Tisane had been second at her past three starts so was well overdue for a win and broke the ice with a three-quarter length win over 1880 metres.

Tisane is the eighth winner from nine foals to race from Camarena, who is a full sister to the dam of Darley’s Champion 2YO and 3YO Colt Sepoy.

Camarena has spawned an impressive dynasty of success for Darley producing Group I winner Camarilla, the dam of four-time Group I winner Guelph and grand-dam of this season’s Group I ATC Golden Rose winner Bivouac.

Whatever the future holds for Tisane on the racetrack, her future in the Darley broodmare band is well and truly assured.
