One to Watch – Bendigo

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday April 16
It wasn’t hard to find a ‘One to Watch’ on Tuesday with the full sister to recently retired multiple Group I winner Shoals opening her account at Bendigo on Tuesday.

Tides is the second foal and second winner from The Broken ShoreThree year-old Fastnet Rock filly Tides is prepared by Anthony Freedman as was her sister and she was sent off a short priced favourite for the 1300 metre maiden at her first run back from a lengthy spell.

Unplaced when making her debut last September, Tides has been given time to mature and showed the benefit of that when stalking the leader and forging clear to win by three-quarters of a length.

Retained to race by her breeders John Messara and Jonathan Munz, Tides is the second winner from two foals to race from blue-blooded Hussonet (USA) mare The Broken Shore, whose first foal Shoals won $2.5 million with highlight wins in the Group I ATC Surround Stakes, VRC Myer Classic and SAJC Sangster Stakes.

The Broken Shore was bought by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock for $1.9 million at the Magic Millions Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014.

The Broken Shore is a metropolitan winning half-sister to Group I winners Redoute’s Choice, Manhattan Rain and Platinum Scissors as well as Group III winner Sliding Cube and stakes-winner Echoes of Heaven.

Her third foal, two year-old Fastnet Rock colt Groundswell topped the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale when fetching $2.3 million and she has a yearling colt by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) that was withdrawn from Inglis Easter.

The Broken Shore has a weanling filly by Fastnet Rock and is in foal to I m Invincible.
