Another Millionaire for I Am Invincible and a Slipper Contender

Tara Madgwick - Saturday February 16
Talented five year-old mare Eckstein became the newest millionaire performer for her sire I Am Invincible when scoring a tenacious win in the Group III ATC Southern Cross Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Trained at Goulburn by Kurt Goldman, Eckstein (image Steve Hart) was having her first run back from a spell and hit the line hard for Sam Clipperton to win the 1200 metre sprint by a half neck.

Already a multiple stakes-winner and Group I placed, Eckstein was a $165,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Vinery Stud draft for Australian Bloodstock and has won seven of 29 starts earning in excess of $1million prizemoney.

She was a successful pinhook having been bought first as a weanling for $50,000 by KP Thoroughbreds from the Inglis Weanling Sale from the Redbank North draft.

She is the best of three winners from unraced Choisir mare Comrie, a grand-daughter of multiple Group I winner Canny Lass from the family of Group I stars such as Sepoy, Canny Lad, Camarena and Guelph.

Comrie had a filly foal by Sooboog last year and is now in foal to I Am Invincible's Group I winning son Hellbent, so will produce a three-quarter sibling to Eckstein this year.

I Am Invincible started the day on a high note in Brisbane where his exciting two year-old daughter Vincere Volare scored a dominant win in the Aquis Farm colours for the Tony Gollan stable as a short priced favourite in the $125,000 juvenile event over 1110 metres.

She led all the way and has now won two from two earning over $112,000 with connections looking towards Sydney and a tilt at the Golden Slipper and Sires Produce Stakes.

"We have got her in both of those and just about anything else we can think of. But she has the prize money now and it shows the benefit of this new $125,000 race," Gollan said.

"It gives you a chance to compete with the Sydney horses for prize money. I had it as a target since November when she won at Doomben.

"She had to do it tough today after she was attacked in the lead. But she is a fit filly and showed the benefit of having a start before Christmas and then two trials in the lead up.

"I have a big wrap on her and she will go to Sydney fit and in form."

A $300,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Aquis Master Syndicate / Tony Gollan Racing, Vincer Volare is a half-sister to stakes-placed Conscious.

She was bred by part-owner Bob Hannon and partners and is the third winner from Elimbari, a Group III placed three-quarter sister by Fastnet Rock to Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Amelia's Dream.

Bob Hannon's Ascot Park will offer the half-brother by Vancouver to Vincere Volare at Inglis Easter as Lot 435.
