Pride of Dubai and Vancouver Lead Karaka First Season Sires

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 31
The 2019 NZB National Yearling Sale Series Book One produced some good results for first season sires with Coolmore's power duo of Pride of Dubai and Vancouver leading averages.

A dual Group I winning two year-old by Street Cry, Pride of Dubai had four yearlings average $160,000. His top seller was a filly from Mystique that made $220,000 for Inglewood Stud when secured by Ciaron Maher Racing / Eales Racing.

Not far behind was a colt from Emira that made $180,000 for Koru Thoroughbreds when bought by Paul Moroney Bloodstock / Ballymore Stables.

Golden Slipper hero Vancouver was also popular with nine yearlings averaging $142,222 and his top seller was a cracking filly from Ravenna that made $260,000 for Blandford Lodge when bought by Tom Magnier.

Darley's Exosphere posted the single best result for a first season sire when his filly from Twenty Angels made $350,000 for Westbury Stud when secured by Richardson Racing Stables.

He had seven yearlings average $117,143, a sum marginally less than his Darley barn mate Kermadec, who had eight yearlings average $121,500.

Best result for Kermadec was a colt from Diamond Masque bought from the Koru Thoroughbreds draft for $200,000 by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

He was also a pinhook winner and was sourced from Magic Millions National Weanling Sale where he made $40,000 when plucked from the draft of Rothwell Park.

Windsor Park Stud's Mongolian Khan was the leading first season sire by aggregate with 18 yearlings selling for $1,940,000, his top seller a colt from Phocis that made $260,000 to the bis of Waller Racing/ Mulcaster Bloodstock.

Special mention should be made of Kingstar Farm's young Fastnet Rock stallion Bull Point, who topped the Magic Millions when he was offered as a yearling back in 2012.

His lone offering, a colt from Dollhouse made $100,000 for Brighthill Farm when knocked down to Chris Rutten Bloodstock, not a bad result off a $7,700 service fee.
