Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

The barrier trials at Warwick Farm on Tuesday morning featured five heats for juveniles and while undefeated colt Time to Reign was an obvious standout, there was another exciting colt by champion sire Exceed and Excel that actually clocked quicker time.

A $325,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Darby Racing/De Burgh Equine/Portelli Racing, Time to Reign is yet to put a foot wrong with stylish wins at Randwick and Rosehill in October and November.

This was his first public outing since then and he showed brilliant speed from an outside gate to cross and sit outside the leader before surging to the line under a hold to win the 797 metre heat by a neck in 46.91 seconds over another Darby Racing owned colt in Exceed the Stars.

Time to Reign bypassed the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in favour of autumn goals and would appear to be well on track for those aspirations.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Exceed and Excel colt Mclaren sported the China Horse Club colours and zoomed to his third trial win from three outings when cantering home to win his heat by nearly seven lengths in 46.88 seconds.

He is so ready for the races and it will be interesting to see of he can keep his unbeaten record intact on race day.

A $380,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Baramul Stud draft for China Horse Club/Newgate/Winstar, he runs for a power partnership of stallion makers and is closely related to Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Headwater, who has his first yearlings selling at sales this year.

McLaren is a three-quarter brother to stakes-placed Cao Cao and is from Serenada, a winning Encosta de Lago half-sister to Group II winners First Command and One World from the family of Group I winning sprinter River Dove.

Other heat winners were: Gina Lola (Not a Single Doubt), Mutual (Spirit of Boom) and Super Oasis (Exceed and Excel).
