Winner of the Group III BRC Fred Best Classic at three, lightly raced five year-old Nicconi gelding Niccanova recaptured top form when winning the Listed BRC Recognition Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

NicconiAn easy last start winner at Doomben, the Steve Tregea trained Niccanova was favourite for his return to Black Type company and hit the line hard to win the 1350 metre contest by half a length.

Bred and retained to race by Windemere Stud, Niccanova has the impressive record of seven wins and four placings from 12 starts with prizemoney topping $424,000.

He is the first foal of unraced Snippetson mare Dananova, who comes from the family of juvenile stakes-winner Ploverset and New Zealand Group I winner Southern Lord.

Niccanova is the fifth stakes-winner this season for Widden Stud's quiet achiever Nicconi, who is well represented at upcoming yearling sales. Nicconi has 22 entries for Magic Millions and 35 for Inglis Classic.
