Another Nicconi Stakes-Winner

Tara Madgwick - Saturday December 7

Winner of the Group III BRC Fred Best Classic at three, talented six year-old Nicconi gelding Niccanova recaptured top form when winning the Listed BRC Brisbane Stakes at Doomben on Saturday.

Nicconi is the sire of NiccanovaThe Steve Tregea trained Niccanova was easy in the market but swept home to win the 1600m feature by a neck.

Bred and retained to race by Windemere Stud, Niccanova has the impressive record of eight wins and six placings from 21 starts with prizemoney topping $550,000.

“I took NIccanova to Mackay for their carnival this year and he looked terrible up there. He just doesn’t seem to like travel and we won’t be tempted by races like The Villiers in Sydney in coming weeks,” Tregea said.

“There are some nice 1600m races coming up for him in southeast Queensland, So he can stay home.”

He is the first foal of unraced Snippetson mare Dananova, who comes from the family of juvenile stakes-winner Ploverset and New Zealand Group I winner Southern Lord.

Niccanova is the fourth stakes-winner this season for Widden Stud’s quiet achiever Nicconi, who has the highest rated sprinter in the country at present in Nature Strip.
