More Group One Goals for Comin’ Through

Tara Madgwick - Saturday September 1
Last seen winning the Group I BRC Doomben Cup back in May, five year-old Fastnet Rock gelding Comin' Through showed he will be a serious contender for further Group I success this season when resuming with a hard fought win in the Group II ATC Tramway Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.

Comin' Through returns to scalePrepared by Chris Waller, Comin' Through (images Steve Hart) was tuned up with two recent trials and showed his class when outpointing stablemate Tom Melbourne to win the 1400 metre sprint by a half neck with regular rider Michael Walker in the saddle, who is the retained rider for his owner breeder Sir Owen Glenn.

"He's not the easiest horse to ride and I got to the front a bit too soon, but he got the job done," Walker said, adding the owner's long term goal for the horse was the Group I Japan Cup run at the end of the year.

In the meantime, there are plenty of local options for Comin' Through, who has the overall record of seven wins and five placings from 18 starts with prizemoney topping $1.7 million.

"He's a winner. He doesn't win by far, but he wins," said Chris Waller.

"The Underwood Stakes (Group I over 1800m at Caulfield on September 30) might be a good race for him, so he'll go to Melbourne for the Makybe Diva at Flemington first."

Fastnet RockA half-brother to Sir Owen Glenn's $7million earner Criterion, Comin' Through is the second Group I winner and million dollar earner for his dam Mica's Pride, a blue hen that has also left us Group II winner Varenna Miss and stakes-winner Silently among her nine winners from nine foals to race.

Now 20 years old, Mica's Pride has a yearling filly by Sebring that is a full sister to $7million earner Criterion. She is not in foal at present having missed to Snitzel last year.

Comin' Through is the first stakes-winner of the new season for Coolmore's champion sire Fastnet Rock, who is joined at Coolmore this spring by his dual Group I winning son Merchant Navy.

While Comin' Through is a gelding, his Group III winning brother-in-blood Bull Point is available to breeders and stands at Kingstar Farm at a fee of $7,700.
