One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 24
This Gooree Stud homebred provided a winning welcome home for Randwick trainer Mark Newnham, who has just returned from holidays in the Northern Hemisphere.

More Than ReadyA two year-old daughter of champion sire More Than Ready (USA), Gentle Persuasion drew a little wide in the 1100 metre juvenile fillies maiden, but that proved no hurdle.

She settled back in the field for Josh Parr and unwound a scintillating finishing burst to fly past the leaders and win by a nearly two lengths running away.

"I was always confident she was good enough, but the barrier was a concern,” said Mark Newnham.

"Josh gave her a lovely ride and there was plenty of pace.

"She’s shown good ability from day one and has gone well every time she has trialled. She found the right race today, so she could kick off with a win.”

Gentle Persuasion is the first winner for Pay Off Now, a three-quarter sister by Danehill Dancer (IRE) to the former very smart Gooree Stud bred filly Gamble Me, a multiple Group III winner of over $460,000 in prizemoney.

Evergreen shuttler More Than Ready returns to Vinery Stud this spring at a fee of $66,000.
