Winning Debut for Expensive Your Song Colt

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 10
Your Song colt The Tenor was an eye-catcher at the 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale where he made $400,000 to be the highest priced yearling by his sire ever sold and he proved equally eye-catching at Newcastle on Tuesday when racing to an easy debut win.

The Tenor as a yearlingPrepared by Kris Lees, The Tenor was a short priced favourite for the 900 metre juvenile maiden following an easy barrier trial win last month.

He ran right up to the expectation of punters, giving Brenton Avdulla an easy ride to lead throughout and win by two lengths under hands and heels.

The Tenor was bought by Tom Moore for Ron and Judy Wanless and was consigned for sale by Southern Cross Breeders.

Bred by Ashleigh Thoroughbreds Senga Bissett and Ivan Woodford-Smith, The Tenor is the second winner from minor winning General Nediym mare Bay Trixie, a half-sister to Group II placed Lady Cay and to the dam of stakes-winner Cruden Bay.

Bay Trixie was one of 183 mares covered by Widden Stud's Your Song last spring at a fee of $22,000 after he roared back into vogue following an illuminating season when his first runners made him the leading Australian First Season Sire by winners ahead of both All Too Hard and Pierro.

While those high profile rivals have slipped away from Your Song this this year, the Group I winning son of Fastnet Rock remains a clear third by winners and earnings on the Second Season Sires table.

Your Song is sure to be well supported again at Widden Stud this year at $22,000.
