First Win for Lucia Valentina Sibling

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday July 3
She will never be as good as her $4million earning older half-sister Lucia Valentina, but three year-old filly Triscilla will be able to go to stud as a winner after an easy victory at Geelong on Tuesday.

Exceed and Excel is the sire of TriscillaRetained to race by the Bax family, who bred and sold Lucia Valentina, Triscilla was having her first run back from a spell and first run for new trainer Dean Binaisse.

She was well fancied and dashed clear to win the 1000 metre maiden by two lengths at her seventh start.

"She bombed the start a little bit, but on that surface it is very forgiving and she was able to muster and eventually find the lead,”  said winning rider Remi Tremsal.

"I was able to sit off the leader for a little while and let her roll forward and she did it easy in the end.”

The three-year-old filly, bred and owned by Graham and Helen-Gaye Bax, has been booked into Zoustar this coming breeding season, but that plan might be quashed if Dean Binaisse gets his way.

"She is booked into Zoustar, I’ve got to make it hard for Mr Bax to make the decision with her of whether we press on and keep racing with her or if she goes to stud,” he said.

"She got the win today, imagine how much better it would look on her page if she had a city win or a city placing beside her name.”

By champion sire Exceed and Excel, Triscilla is the fourth winner for Montjeu (IRE) mare Staryn Glenn, who is also the dam of triple Group I winner Lucia Valentina and Group III winner Malandrino.

Starynn Glenn crossed the Tasman last spring to visit Golden Slipper winner Capitalist before returning to Blandford Lodge in New Zealand where she is based.

Lucia Valentina is expecting her first foal this spring after visiting champion sire Snitzel last year.
