Zoustar Colt Impressive at Doomben

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 27
When Zoustar colt Zoustyle won a barrier trial on the dirt at Eagle Farm by 12 lengths earlier this month in brilliant time it got everyone talking and he made his debut at Doomben on Wednesday as a red hot favourite.

Prepared by Tony Gollan, Zoustyle flew the gates for Brad Stewart and cruised forward to take an effortless lead before being pestered by another rival in Eye Stopper.

ZoustarWhen that youngster waved the white flag as they turned for home Zoustyle hit overdrive and motored to the line to win the 1110 metre maiden by five lengths in 1.03.45, which broke the class record.

"That's the first time he's seen grass," said Tony Gollan.

"He's a nice horse and has always show us a lot. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but he does give us a very good feeling."

Zoustyle was retained to race by his breeders and is the second winner for German bred Anabaa (USA) mare Fashion (Ger), who had her first winner on Monday when Faustine, a three year-old Snitzel filly won at Port Macquarie for Kris Lees.

While Faustine went through the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale and was bought by Australian Bloodstock for $85,000, Zoustyle was withdrawn from sale as a yearling.

"We've given him plenty of time as he had some issues, which were the same issues that meant he could not be sold as a yearling," Tony Gollan revealed.

"Bloodstock agent John Foote does a lot of work for us and is friends with his breeders so that was how he came to us."

Zoustyle comes from a big Black Type family as his stakes-placed dam Fashion is a half-sister to Group III winner Felicity, the dam of 2013 Champion German Miler Felician.

Zoustyle is the ninth winner for Widden Stud's Zoustar, the Champion Australian First Season Sire for 2017/2018. The brilliant son of Northern Meteor stands at a fee of $60,500.
