Timely Results for Proisir

Media Release - Monday January 19

Rich Hill Stud’s outstanding resident stallion Proisir has given further timely reminders of his on-track and sales ring prowess.

He was New Zealand’s champion sire in 2022/23 and is on target for a second title with the lead in the race for the 2025/26 premiership.

On Saturday, Proisir was represented by his 24th individual black-type winner when the Roger James and Robert Wellwood-trained Fairy Dream was victorious in the G3 Desert Gold Stakes at Trentham.

“She’s a top-class filly. With a bit more time and on drier ground, I think we might see her do some special things,” Wellwood said.

“We’ll probably stick to the fillies’ path for now, races like the David & Karyn Ellis Fillies’ Classic (G2, 2000m) at Te Rapa and then the Oaks (G1, 2400m).”

Proisir’s daughter Royal Flower also impressed with her stout finish for second in the G3 Trentham Stakes over 2100 metres.

Her performance strongly suggested the Gail Temperton-prepared mare will be ideally suited by 3200 metres in the G3 Wellington Cup.

Trainers Ken and Bev Kelso have enjoyed top-flight success with Proisir’s daughter Levante and Legarto and have another promising one in emerging stayer Levakia.

She finished runner-up in her middle-distance debut at Tauranga before impressively going one better at Pukekohe Park on Sunday.

Proisir again emphasised his pulling power at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was represented by four youngsters who sold for A$1,210,000 at an average of A$302,500.

$360,000 Proisir colt from Mystique Falcon sold at Magic Millions last week.

His top-priced yearling was sold for A$360,000 to John O’Shea and Tom Charlton Racing, James Bester Bloodstock and Hurworth Bloodstock by Attunga Stud on behalf of breeder Inglewood Stud.

Associate Rich Hill stallion Satono Aladdin was also hugely popular with his three yearlings selling for A$1,235,000 with a top lot of A$575,000 and an average of A$411,666.

Meanwhile, Rich Hill will offer 12 of the best by Proisir at next week’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale at Karaka and nine by Satono Aladdin at the centenary auction.
