Second Australian Winner for Dundeel

Mark Smith - Monday June 11

Dundeel's first winner Irukandji captured the Group III ATC Schweppervescence (T L Baillieu) Stakes and there looks to better things ahead for Dundeel's second Australian winner, Dealmaker, who toughed it out impressively in the 2YO 0SC HCP (1550m) on the Kensington track at Randwick on Monday.

After jumping well, Dealmaker looked in danger of being caught three deep, so Kerrin McEvoy elected to do some work to sit outside of the leader Battle Plan.

Under strong riding, Dealmaker took the lead at the 300m but came under immediate attack by the Snitzel colt Morpheus who looked to get his head in front before the Chris Waller-trained colt fought back and was doing much the better in the closing stages to win by a long-neck.

The Kris Lees-trained Miss Earth (Stratum) was two and a quarter lengths back in third.

"I was a big fan of Dundeel, he was a tough racehorse and there are a lot of similarities there," Waller told Sky Racing.

"This horse will certainly be there as a three-year-old – I don't know if he will quite get to the heights of his dad but he's a chance that's for sure.

"I thought we were a length closer than where I anticipated he would be and I wondered if that might soften him up at the finish.

"I knew he would see out the distance strongly, but I worried he may have done too much in the mid stages. It was good to see him fight - he was off the canvas and he looks to have a bright staying future."

Built in the mould of his sire, Dealmaker (pictured as a yearling ) was a $160,000 purchase by Star Thoroughbreds / Chris Waller Racing from the Arrowfield draft at the 2017 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

He is the first foal of the Melbourne winning Redoute's Choice mare Sport Chic a daughter of the Listed winner Cinque (Red Ransom) from the family of Faithful Son (Zilzal), Always Fair (Danzig) and Keep The Faith (Sunday Silence).

A full brother to Dealmaker was purchased by Payne Racing for $140,000 at this year's Easter Yearling Sale.

After foaling A Real Impact colt last spring, Sport Chic was bred back to Dundeel.

The 6-time Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral (IRE) also has first crop winners in New Zealand and South Africa. He will stand at an unchanged fee of $27,500 at Arrowfield Stud this spring.
