From Maiden to G1 Winner in Six Weeks

Media Release - Monday June 11

It may be a week into winter but The Autumn Sun shone brightly at Doomben. The 2YO son of Redoute's Choice let down in the straight to claim a maiden Group 1 victory at only his third race start.

Sold by Arrowfield Stud at the 2017 Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $700,000, the colt today kept his unbeaten record intact.

The Autumn Sun as a yearlingThe future certainly looks bright for the Hermitage owned colt as he targets the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in the spring.

Hermitage's manager Olly Koolman said the colt caught their eye early at the Easter Yearling Sale.

"We went with the plan to buy a derby winner," Koolman said.

"Guy Mulcaster identified him and had him on a shortlist. He was one of the first through the ring on that list and we bought confidently with him.

"He's now a two-year-old Group 1 winning son of Redoute's Choice, so I'm not sure if we get to a Derby with him with other factors at play, but he's a very exciting horse."

Chris Waller will also train the The Autumn Son's three-quarter brother by Snitzel, who he purchased at this years Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $1,300,000, again sold by Arrowfield Stud.

Inglis graduates have won four of the five Group 1 races for juveniles this season, making the auction house the only sales company to sell a two-year-old Group 1 winner.

Inglis' National Bloodstock Manger Jonathan D'Arcy said it was rewarding to see the success of graduates on the track.

"One of the objectives we have in mind when we go into the field selecting yearlings for our sales is to identify likely superior runners on the racetrack," D'Arcy said.

"It's great to see our vendors getting their hard work rewarded with these outstanding racetrack results.

"To have offered four individual two-year-old Group 1 winners is testament that we are being offered the right horses by Australia's leading breeders for our sales.

"It is equally as satisfying to share the great racetrack success with our clients who purchase from Inglis sales."

Meanwhile, Santa Ana Lane continued what has been a phenomenal season, claiming his third win at the highest level this season in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.

The well travelled son of Lope De Vega also won the Sir Rupert Clark Stakes at Caulfield and the Goodwood Handicap at Morphetville. In doing so, he becomes the first horse in history to win both the Goodwood and the Stradbroke in the same season.

Sold by Rosemont Stud on behalf of breeder Dyson Hore-Lacy at the 2015 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Santa Ana Lane was purchased for $80,000 by Flemington Bloodstock on behalf of Michael Ramsden's William Street syndicate.

And Savanna Amour continued to prove herself, winning her fifth stakes race when claiming the listed Makers Mark Hinkler Handicap at Doomben.

The daughter of Love Conquers all was purchased by OnTrack thoroughbreds for $100,000 at the 2015 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

Her prizemoney now stands in excess of $600,000.

The next chance to purchase a horse at an Inglis sale is the 2018 Great Southern Sale, to be held at Oaklands starting June 17.

The main catalogue for the sale holds 991 lots with 571 of those being weanlings.
