Dubawi's Jungle Edge Racing's Latest Millionaire

Mark Smith - Sunday June 10

Bone dry for the greater part of the year, Sydney has not been the place for noted mudlark Jungle Edge, but he found conditions to suit on a cold and dreary day at Randwick to earn a fourth stakes win in Saturday's Listed June Stakes (1100m) and take his earnings to over a million dollars.

Mick Bell's 7yo son of Dubawi (IRE) took up his favoured front-running role under veteran horseman Kevin Forrester to defeat the Kim Waugh-trained Shiraz (Zariz) by one and a quarter lengths with the favourite I Thought So (So You Think) four lengths back in third. (photo Steve Hart).

He's the horse of a lifetime," Bell said. "What a dream come true to get a horse that's clocked over a million dollars.

"It's hard to find heavy tracks and whenever he's got them, he's showed he's the best wet tracker in Australia. I think he's earned that title.

"He's a beautiful, beautiful horse and the ride continues.

The best of four winners from as many to race out of the winning Carnegie mare Jungle Girl, Jungle Edge advances his overall record to 14 wins, 5 seconds and 8 thirds from 52 starts with earnings of $1,019,260.

Jungle Girl is a half-sister to the dam of dual Listed stakes winner Brief Kiss (Brief Truce) and a half-sister to Sydney winner Jewel Of Africa the dam of the stakes-placed Picholine (Dehere), herself the dam of Group I Victoria Derby winner and Group I South Australia Derby winner Rebel Raider (Reset) as well as the talented Group III winner Shamoline Warrior (Shamardal).

Jungle Girl has not had a live foal since Jungle Edge. After not having a mare return submitted for three years, she was dropped from the official records in 2016.
