Record Breaking MM National Sale Concludes

Media Release - Thursday June 7
Records have fallen as the curtain came down on what officials have declared as a "phenomenal" 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Sale.

Today's final day of selling comprising Book Two Yearlings and Racehorses grossed over $2.3 million helping push the overall sale average price and clearance rate to record levels.

The total sale gross this afternoon sat at over $140 million - just the second time in history such a figure has been reached.

The average price for a lot sold over the past three weeks is a record $89,039 and the clearance rate across all sales was an impressive 83 per cent - another improvement on last year's record unprecedented results.

Today's top seller was the exciting three-year-old Nathula who sold for $165,000 during the National Racehorse Sale.

The son of Sepoy, catalogued as Lot 2349, was offered by Godolphin and helped that draft provide the top 16 priced sellers in the Racehorse Sale.

Nathula was purchased by Bridle Bloodstock and the recent Warwick Farm placegetter looks to have an exciting future for his new connections in Hong Kong.

Singapore's Constance Cheng bid strongly to secure Thrilled for $120,000. The Exceed and Excel gelding was a winner at Warwick Farm just over a week ago.

Noumea ($110,000) and last start Geelong winner Kapuziner ($90,000) were both purchased by Victoria's Fernwood Park and look set for jumping futures.

Earlier in the day a colt by Red Element sold for $90,000 and topped Book Two of the National Yearling Sale.

Offered by Grandview, the bay colt was purchased by Macau based trainer James Moore and his friend and owner Jason Tam.

"To have a gross again over $140 million is a phenomenal result," Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch said late today.

"The National Breeding Stock Sale has once again proven itself as the number one sale of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere."

"So many people have played their part in making this year's National Sale such a success. The vendors, their staff, buyers, the transport companies and drivers, strappers, change over crew and wait staff at the complex should all be congratulated."

"But I really mustpay tribute to the Magic Millions team who have stepped up to the plate and shown incredible dedication from the lead up to this massive event until today. It was a huge team effort and I couldn't be more proud of their efforts," Bowditch added.
